The Minis: Mel Holmes - Madewell Stylist
Top 3 Chicago places?
My home, Promontory Point, C.C. Ferns.
If you had to choose three articles of clothing to keep for the next three years of your life, what would they be?
Probably a pair of my Madewell Demi Boot blue jeans, a good old white t-shirt, and my leather jacket--hey, I just put a little outfit together! But I would wear that for the rest of my life.
What is your current favorite band, movie, and television show?
My current favorite band is probably Blood Orange, and they are coming to Chicago. Probably one of my favorite movies is The Dreamers. It’s about these young kids in France, it’s something I can always watch. It’s a little sexy, and sometimes racy at times. I’ve been obsessed with Chef’s Table and Cooked. I find myself literally crying through them. I just love food so much, and I love hospitality, and I love the mind of chef’s. They’re so interesting, and sometimes dark, and they have all these pressures. I also just finished The Night Of.
Three people alive or dead that you would like to have dinner with?
I would love to have dinner with Amy Winehouse. I like that documentary; It spurred more of an interest with her. After that, Mother Teresa. And I would love to have dinner with my grandmother. She passed away when my mom was young, and as cool as my mom is, I feel like [my grandmother] would be amazing. So yeah, those three ladies.
Where is your go-to positive place when you’re feeling down/sad and what do you usually do?
It’s usually [my home]. I would hope it would be an evening spent with my husband--he works a lot. But just being here with him, and we’re big tea drinkers, so [I would] make a cup of tea. Or being at my parents farm in Ohio. As much as I’m a city girl, being there just feels so comfortable. I can have cereal at midnight! My mom’s house is always the best house.
