The Minis: Chelsea Miller
Hi Chelsea! Tell us a little bit about yourself.
My name is Chelsea Miller. I'm a 23 year old freelance photographer & model born and raised in Michigan but currently based out of Seattle, Washington.
You not only take photos, but you also model. Does one help you be better at the other since you understand both sides of the camera?
Absolutely! I think taking self portraits was really the start of any sort of modeling for me. I really didn't anticipate it evolving into anything more, but already knowing poses and having a visual idea of what things look like from a view finder has definitely helped me in my modeling. On the other end, I believe modeling has helped me behind the camera by helping me to understand how to make one feel comfortable and relaxed to produce the best possible images.
How would you describe your style? What are some of your go to pieces?
My style is usually all over the place, but the majority of my closet is filled with vintage pieces. Vintage clothing gives me heart palpitations!! I love the hunt and the unique individuality of each piece I find. My go to items are probably one of the many vintage button up blouses I have with a neck tie and my high waisted jeans.
What do you enjoy most about your career? And what is something that is important to you in your work?
I'm always so overwhelmed with the art community- specifically photography and the eagerness to create, collaborate, and support one another. That is definitely one of the things I enjoy the most. I've met so many talented artists who have helped me grow as a photographer and model and I'm forever grateful for their support. I want my work to evoke emotion or feeling for the viewer. I'm always trying to stay inspired, creative, and original, which is so challenging. But as long as I'm staying true to what I think represents me as an individual photographer in a world full of photographers, I believe that is the most important thing.
What are some of your favorite places in Seattle?
One of my favorite places has to be Q bakery in Beacon Hill. I pretty much live off of their fresh bread and báhn mì sandwiches. Some other favorite places are Kubota Gardens and Gas Works Park!
