Hi Anna! Tell us a little bit about yourself.
I'm a freelance brand voice coach, aspiring social worker, and avid explorer. Originally from the Gulf Coast of Alabama, I moved to Chicago in pursuit of seasons, craft beer & all the cheese. You can typically find me cuddling my kitties Roux and Stevie, going on weekend adventures with my boyfriend, or devouring an almond croissant at the Logan Square Farmers Market. Fun fact: I don't have a southern accent!

How did your interest in writing begin? Did you know that you always wanted to craft a career out of it?
I've always loved to read and write, and I received a lot of positive feedback from my high school English teachers for my writing. I think this encouragement (as well as the movie 13 Going on 30, if we're being honest) propelled my marketing and copywriting career. I ventured into the freelance world after realizing that I prefer working one-on-one with people, as well as crafting quippy, yet authentic brand copy.

Could you give us some insight into the work that you do? What does it encompass?
The community of creative women entrepreneurs in Chicago is amazing. After quitting my 9-5, I was quickly embraced by such an awesome and encouraging circle of female makers. I found that many of them were struggling with the same thing: crafting consistent brand copy that felt representative of themselves, their work, and their clients. I spend time getting to know my clients and the "why" behind their business. From there, we work together to build a brand voice for their "About Me" page, landing pages, blog posts, etc. that feels streamlined and authentic.

What makes you passionate about the work you do?
I have a background in both journalism and psychology, so the common thread is connection. I've always been fascinated by personality theory and personal branding, and I'm extremely inspired by female entrepreneurs. I love interviewing my clients to hear their stories — uncovering the "why" behind their businesses, what drives their creative genius, and which types of people they hope to connect with through their web copy.

Why did you want to become a Glossary ambassador?
I want to be a Glossary ambassador because my values and interests perfectly align with the collective's mission. I first met the lovely Mandy during her Let's Camp retreat at Camp Wandawega this fall, and I was forever changed. The energy was so positive and inspiring that none of us wanted the weekend to end. We're living in a tumultuous, yet powerful time where women are fighting for their right to be seen and heard. I believe that the Glossary is part of this movement — to shed light on amazing women, to celebrate their accomplishments, and to cherish their differences.
