Gathering #2 May 18th scratch goods

Blown away is the phrase we’re using about our second meal. These women made this dinner extra special with their warmth, generosity, and openness.

We gathered a group of 11 women at Scratch Goods, a plant-based, food grade skincare shop, on May 18th for a night of beautiful conversation and delicious food. From the moment we arrived, everyone was excited to collaborate. We started the evening off with drinks from KOVAL, followed by headshots with Perry Fish.

As that was happening, all of the women who brought something for the table, styled the beautiful space where we were to eat.

We were lucky to work with KOVAL for this dinner for not only drinks, but also entertainment. Their ambassador Elana walked us through a cocktail making class before the meal, teaching us how to make a variation of a Bee’s Knees. If you haven’t heard of KOVAL, they’re an amazing, organic, grain to bottle distillery in Chicago. You can find our interview with their founder Sonat here.

Amanda of Baguette & Butter was our chef for the evening. She created a hyper-localized menu, pulling a ton of ingredients from her own garden. We enjoyed mushroom carpaccio, nettle pasta with spring vegetable white ragu, and vanilla biscuits with spring fruit, preserved lemon yogurt cheese, and pea tendrils.

In beautiful collaborative fashion, each woman got to take home a hand-bound journal made by Nirali Chauhan, a jade roller and palo santo from Scratch Goods, and amazing ceramics from Ashley Lin. Even though the evening was humid and rainy, what happened inside the Scratch Goods space was some sort of feminine magic.

Elana Schmidt

Elana is an ambassador at KOVAL and we were so glad she could join us for the evening. She was a breath of fresh air and taught us all how to make delicious cocktails using KOVAL’s grain to bottle gin and whiskey.

Andi is the brand designer who made our place cards for the meal. She handlettered everyone’s names on leaves to go with our earthy theme.

Nirali is the kindest human you will meet. She flew in from New Hampshire for this meal and created handbound journals for everyone to take home.

Amanda is a powerhouse in the kitchen. Using all fresh, local, sustainable ingredients, she created the most delicious, flavorful meal. She hosts online and in-person workshops to teach people how to cook more sustainably.

These women are the masterminds behind Scratch Goods, a plant-based, food grade skincare line. Their space hosts workshops around self-care, but their mask bar is what sets them apart. We’re so thankful to have gathered in their stunning space.
